Filtrol 160 Installation & Maintenance Instructions
The main things you will want to take into consideration when installing your FILTROL 160 will be:

LOCATION
You will not want to install the FILTROL 160 under a low hang-
ing cabinet. This could interfere with the removal of the filter for
cleaning. If possible, the top of the FILTROL 160 should not
exceed 72”. Discharge hose can be routed to a standpipe, wallbox
or laundry tub 9 figures 1 & 2).

ATTACHMENT
When attaching bracket to the wall, using #14 panhead screws or
¼ “ lag bolts (at least 2” long) with ¼” flat washers is suggested.
Screws should be driven into a stud (figure 3). The FILTROL 160
will become extremely heavy when it is full of water. If drilling into
plaster or drywall and you cannot locate a stud, expander bolt, or
toggle bolts, should be used.
Hint: First attach a 12” x 18” piece of plywood to the wall screw-
ing into wall studs, then attach the bracket to the plywood.

DISCHARGE HOSE
If existing discharge hose is brittle, split or the wrong size, it should
be replaced with 1” ID hose (supplied). Note: On some washing
machines you may need to obtain a 1” union fitting (available at
most hardware stores) to properly attach the new hose. On most
machines the new hose will easily attach to the fitting that pro-
trudes from the back. Be aware that some machines will discharge
2-3 cups of water when hose is removed.

CLEANING
Frequency of cleaning the filter will depend on the types and
amounts of materials being laundered. In most cases the filter will
need to be cleaned every 8-15 washloads. Clean filter often for best
results by turning the bag inside out over a garbage container.
Prolonged use with a dirty filter could cause damage to your wash-
ing machine. Bags are washable. After a few months use, empty the
bag (put in a new filter in the canister) and launder with the next
load of clothes. Always check to make sure the clips are securely
holding the top in place. Failure to do so could allow the top to
“pop-off” while in use. Over time lint and soap scum can build-up
around the rim of the canister making it difficult to remove and
replace the top. Clean with a damp rag when necessary and lubri-
cate the gasket with a thin layer of petroleum jelly.

NOTE
Closely monitor the filter while in operation during the first few
weeks to see how it will perform with your washing machine and
clean when necessary, usually when the lint covers the bottom half
of the bag.

These are examples of typical installations, however, because not all laundry rooms are the same, you may have to modify your set-up.

CAUTION:

Always unplug washing machine before moving it or performing any type of service.  Also, if your washing machine leaves clothing excessively wet after final spin cycle, clean or replace the filter immediately.  Prolonged use with a dirty filter could cause damage to your washing machine.  The FILTROL 160 has been tested and found to be compatible with all types of residential washing machines.
